ABSTRACT: It is about thinking about the approximation between poetry, politics and ethics in some contemporary Portuguese poetry in order to reflect on ways of making or reading poetry. We start from certain essayists or poet-essayists to show how poetry maintains a commitment to time, history and society. With this interest, we understand how some poetry of the last decades resists an increasingly market-oriented and massified daily life, also constituting itself as a language in crisis and in a state of criticism, experienced in an urban and artificially globalized space. Next, we comment on four outstanding poets of the Portuguese present, with works begun in the 90s and 2000s, with different degrees of critical reception: Manuel de Freitas, José Miguel Silva, Pedro Mexia and Golgona Anghel, readers of literary traditions and attentive/ironic observers of contemporary reality. In the reading of his poetics, we provoke the resonance of the voices of Jorge de Sena and Joaquim Manuel Magalhães, poets-critics with a strong impact on the poetic-cultural debate Portuguese of the twentieth century.
