Nosso texto discorre sobre a Igreja Católica no contexto político das décadas de 1920 e 1930. Neste período os debates contra a laicidade do Estado tomam força. A Igreja Católica mobilizou intelectuais leigos a liderarem o combate ao anticlericalismo e comunismo crescentes. Nossa discussão envolve o movimento de Recatolização no Brasil, a crise dos anos 1920, a ascensão de Vargas ao poder e culmina com os Levantes comunistas de 1935. Foi nesse contexto turbulento que a Igreja Católica conseguiu mobilizar seus fiéis intelectuais para combater o anticlericalismo e o comunismo.

ABSTRACT
Our text discusses the Catholic Church in the political context of the 1920s and 1930s. During this period the debates against the laity of the state take force. The Catholic Church mobilized lay intellectuals to lead the fight against growing anticlericalism and communism. Our discussion involves the recatolization movement in Brazil, the crisis of the 1920s, the rise of Vargas to power and culminating with the communist Levantes of 1935. It was in this turbulent context that the Catholic Church managed to mobilize its intellectual believers to combat anticlericalism and communism.
